I wrote this about a month ago but for some reason I forgot to hit the "publish post" button. Better late than never right? Enjoy!
Music videos are a dying art. Yes, an art! The videos were a way for music artists to convey their music onto a live canvas. Does anyone else remember actually looking forward to seeing the video to their favorite song or artist? I remember watching videos like 2pac - California Love, Aha - Take on me, Lauryn Hill - That Thing, Wu-Tang Clan - Triumph, Blind Melon - No Rain, Busta Rhymes - Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See, Dr. Dre - Nuthin but a G thang and every Michael Jackson Video. And when you watch a great video like that you actually get an insight into the thought, emotion, passion and genius that these artists put forth into making not only the video, but also the song itself.

MTV is short for Music TeleVision, right? Yet, they never show videos on a consistent enough basis to warrant that name. The only time I know that they still show actual music videos is during a 3 hour block @ 3am. And the last show they had that was dedicated ti music videos was TRL...Which by the way, was cancelled last year. What ever happened to shows like Yo! MTV Raps, headbangers ball, even beavis and butthead showed music videos. So I say that they change the networks name to... RTV Reality TeleVision. Every show on MTV now is a mind-numbingly, idiotic excuse of a television reality show.
MTV is no longer about music, nor about music videos. So how can they effectively have an award show honoring music videos? Music videos that they neither show, nor has anyone seen. (as a sidenote, how does shakiras video not get nominated for hottest video, ever!)
In closing... Mtv, please show music videos or change your gaddamn name.... And that my friends is what's grinding my gears!
